I firmly believe that there is no hierarchy of suffering, all of our pain deserves balm and acceptance can be the first step to healing the hurt in our soul, no matter where or how that wound arrived.
Therapy isn't about me, but I know that when you are choosing your therapist it can be helpful to get an idea of who they are. Therapeutic practice is a large part of my life but I also love creating things, travel, cooking, good stories, real fires and appreciating the world we live in. I am involved in my local community and enjoy singing in a choir.
Having qualified in 2014, I was extremely fortunate to be employed by Local Authority Counselling Service and have worked in a wide range of settings for this service. My clinical work began in a GP practice and I have counselled within the charity sector. Prior to retraining as a therapist I worked in education, and academia, but always with a focus on helping others achieve their full potential.
I graduated from the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy, who provide training that is accredited by UKCP & BACP with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (with Distinction) and since then have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (with Merit) and a Certificate in Supervision. I am completing Post Qualifying Diploma in Psychotherapy with Children & Young People.* I have a BSc(Hons) in Behavioural Science and this gave me a great foundation for my further studies. I also hold a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and taught Literacy & Numeracy in a large Sixth Form before re-training as a therapist.
Training encompassed a range of different types of therapy, but all of them put you, the client, at the centre of the work and its your difficulties that set the agenda for the work we will do together. This means that we can find a way that suits you and meets your needs. I have a passion for evidence based practice but value the creative and spiritual and the unknown knowns, too.
Inside of a ring or out, ain’t nothing wrong with going down. It’s staying down that’s wrong.” – Muhammad Ali
